About this excursion
Designed specifically for guests staying at hotels in Cairo. The tour includes the Citadel of Salah El-Din and Mohamed Ali's Mosque.
This medieval fortress, begun by Salah El-Din in the 12th century, sits on a hilltop with sweeping views across Cairo and houses the Mohamed Ali Mosque along with several other mosques and museums within its walls. Its defensive walls and location made it the seat of Egypt's rulers for nearly 700 years, and it remains one of the best vantage points in the city for photos.
Built in Ottoman style within the Citadel, this mosque is easy to recognize by its alabaster-clad walls and large central dome, which have earned it the nickname the Alabaster Mosque. Its interior is lit by rows of hanging lamps beneath a soaring domed ceiling, and its courtyard offers some of the best panoramic views over old Cairo.
