1. Excursion Details & Availability
About this excursion
Available for guests staying at hotels in Aswan and for guests staying on Nile cruises.
Dedicated to the falcon god Horus, Edfu is one of the best-preserved temples anywhere in Egypt thanks to being buried in sand for centuries before excavation. Built relatively late, in the Ptolemaic period, its pylons, courtyards, and sanctuary survive largely intact, giving visitors an unusually clear sense of how an ancient Egyptian temple actually functioned. It's typically visited as a stop on the Nile between Luxor and Aswan, often reached by a short horse-drawn caleche ride from the riverbank.
